This is the privacy notice of EM DASH LABS LTD, company number 17352501 (“we”, “our”, “us”). Our registered office is at 66 Paul Street, London EC2A 4NA.
This notice describes how we collect, store, transfer and use personal data. It tells you about your privacy rights and how the law protects you.
In the context of the law and this notice, “personal data” is information that clearly identifies you as an individual or which could be used to identify you if combined with other information. Acting in any way on personal data is referred to as “processing”.
This notice applies to personal data collected through this website and through correspondence with us. We do not operate social media or online retail channels under this name.
Except as set out below, we do not share, sell, or disclose to a third party any information collected through our website. We do not sell personal data in any circumstances.
We have not appointed a data protection officer. We are not required to do so: we do not process personal data on a large scale, nor do we carry out large-scale systematic monitoring.
This is an information-only website. There is no account, no login, no shop, no comments and no newsletter. We process personal data in two circumstances only.
Information you send us. If you email us, we receive the content of your message together with your email address, any name you give and anything else you choose to include. We use it to reply and to keep a record of our correspondence.
Technical information from your visit. Requests made by your browser to our servers are recorded by our hosting and security provider. This includes your Internet Protocol (IP) address, the approximate geographical location derived from it, the pages requested, the referring page, and information about the browser and device you are using. This information is used to serve the website, to keep it secure and available, and — in aggregate only — to understand how many people visit.
We do not use this information to build a profile of you, and we do not attempt to identify individual visitors.
This website sets no cookies. It does not use local storage, session storage, device fingerprinting, advertising pixels, tracking beacons or any other technology that stores information on, or reads information from, your device.
Because nothing is stored on or read from your device, the consent requirement under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations does not arise, and there is no cookie banner to accept or decline.
You do not need to change any browser setting to use this website privately.
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits to the website. It is a privacy-preserving analytics service: it sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device, and does not use fingerprinting to identify returning visitors. It reports aggregate figures only — such as the number of page views, referring sites, country, and broad device and browser type.
We use no other analytics service. We do not use Google Analytics, advertising networks, re-marketing, conversion tracking or social media pixels.
Our website is hosted and delivered by Cloudflare, Inc. (“Cloudflare”), which acts as our data processor. Cloudflare provides hosting, content delivery, TLS encryption, and protection against denial-of-service attacks and other malicious traffic. In providing those services it processes the technical information described above, including IP addresses.
Our email is handled by Google, through its Google Workspace service, which acts as our data processor. Google processes the messages you send us in order to deliver, filter and store them, and may do so at locations outside the United Kingdom; the safeguard described under “Data may be processed outside the UK” applies.
These are the only third parties that process personal data on our behalf in connection with this website. Each acts on our instructions under a written contract that requires appropriate security measures and restricts use of the data to the services provided to us.
Cloudflare operates a global network and is headquartered in the United States. Requests to our website may therefore be served from, and processed at, locations outside the United Kingdom. Accordingly, data obtained within the UK or any other country could be processed outside the UK.
We use the following safeguard with respect to data transferred outside the UK: the data protection clauses in our contracts with data processors include transfer clauses written by or approved by a supervisory authority.
The law requires us to determine under which of six defined bases we process different categories of your personal data, and to notify you of the basis for each category. If a basis on which we process your personal data is no longer relevant, we shall immediately stop processing your data.
Except as otherwise mentioned in this notice, we keep your personal data only for as long as required by us: to provide you with what you have asked for; to comply with other law, including for the period demanded by our tax authorities; or to support a claim or defence in court.
Correspondence is kept for as long as it remains relevant to our relationship with you and then deleted. Security and server logs held by our hosting provider are retained for a short period in line with that provider's standard practice.
We use TLS certificates to verify our identity to your browser and to encrypt any data passing between us. You can check that this is in place by looking for a closed padlock symbol or other trust mark in your browser's URL bar or toolbar.
This is a corporate information website. We do not sell products or provide services for purchase by children, nor do we market to children.
It is important that the personal data we hold about you is accurate and up to date. Please tell us if your personal data changes.
At any time, you may contact us to request that we provide you with the personal data we hold about you, that we correct it, that we delete it, that we restrict how we use it, or that we provide it in a portable form. You may also object to our processing it.
When we receive any such request we first take reasonable steps to verify your identity before granting access or otherwise taking action. This is important to safeguard your information. After receiving your request we will tell you when we expect to respond.
Please be aware that we are not obliged by law to delete your personal data or to stop processing it simply because you ask. Where there is another legitimate basis on which we may process it, we may continue to do so.
If you have a complaint about how we process your personal data, please tell us first — we would rather resolve it directly. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office.
This privacy notice complies with the law in the United Kingdom, specifically with the Data Protection Act 2018 (the “Act”), accordingly incorporating the UK General Data Protection Regulation, and with the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations.
